Community rules
Five plain rules for asking and answering on scentateca, and how posts are reviewed, hidden, removed, voted on and appealed.
The rules
Name specific fragrances.
Answers point at the atlas, so anyone can follow them.
No links, sales or referrals.
Name the fragrance instead. We link it for you.
Disclose any brand or seller tie.
Free samples and paid work show as a label.
Be kind to people.
Be as critical of products as you like.
New members' first posts are reviewed.
Only the author sees a post until then.
How moderation works
Two reports hide a post while we review it. A removal always comes with a reason the author can see. Votes only change the order of replies; they never remove one.
We review new members' first posts. Only you can see it until then. We'll let you know when it's reviewed. A new member's first replies are held the same way.
You always see what happened to your post or reply. It is pending review, hidden while we look at reports, removed with a reason, or deleted by you:
- Two people reported it, so it is hidden while we review it.
- The post's author removed it.
How votes work
- Votes only change the order of replies; they never remove one.
- Anyone signed in can upvote, except on their own post or reply.
- Downvoting unlocks after your first post or reply is approved.
- A new post or reply shows "Score hidden" for its first hour.
- A reply at a net score of −5 or below starts folded as "Below threshold". Open it to read it.
- One card per fragrance. To agree with a suggestion, upvote it.
- Reply under any reply. Up and down votes sort every thread.
Why something is removed
- It was removed as spam.
- It was removed as inappropriate.
- It was removed as misinformation.
- It was removed as a duplicate of another post.
- It was removed as off topic.
- It was removed as harassment.
- It was removed as an undisclosed promotion.
- It was removed by a moderator.
If you think we got it wrong
Write to hello@scentateca.com with the link to your post.
A post hidden after reports can't be edited while a moderator reviews it. You can still delete it, or write to us. A removed post can't be edited either.
