This policy explains how Scentateca (“we”) handles information when you browse, create an account or contribute. Contact hello@scentateca.com with privacy questions or requests.
Information we handle
Account information includes your email address, sign-in provider, account identifiers and the profile details you choose to add, such as a handle, display name, photo, biography or location. Authentication is handled by Supabase; passwords are not displayed to other members.
We store your fragrance statuses, shelves, Signature, bottle details, personal notes and privacy preferences, along with reviews, votes, follows, community posts, reports and catalogue submissions you make. Support and moderation requests may include the contact details and evidence you provide.
We also process technical information such as IP addresses, browser and device information, request logs, interaction events and performance measurements to operate, protect and improve the site.
What other people can see
Profiles and fragrance lists start public. Use What others see to change profile and list audiences, control displayed information and preview your public profile. Depending on the audience you select, a list may be visible to everyone, signed-in members, anyone holding its share link, or only you. Share links can be forwarded; you can revoke them.
Bottle details, purchase prices, private notes and records for fragrances missing from the catalogue are owner-only. Public reviews, community posts and approved catalogue contributions can be read by others. Information already copied by another person or indexed elsewhere may persist after you change its visibility.
Why we use information
We use information to provide accounts and libraries, personalise fragrance suggestions, deliver requested sign-in and security emails, honour visibility settings, moderate contributions, prevent abuse, respond to support requests and measure reliability and usage.
Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you request, our legitimate interests in maintaining and protecting it, compliance with legal obligations, or consent where required. You can contact us to ask about or object to a use of your information.
Service providers and external content
We use Supabase for authentication, database and file storage, Vercel for hosting and site performance analytics, Resend for account email delivery, and PostHog for usage and error analytics. These providers process relevant information to deliver their services. If you choose Google sign-in, Google handles that sign-in under its own policy.
We may share information when legally required or necessary to investigate abuse and protect the service or its members. We do not sell your personal information. Service providers may process information in other countries, subject to applicable data protection requirements.
Some pages include attributed external content or links, including community source links. Following a link or loading externally hosted media can disclose technical information to its provider; its privacy policy applies to that interaction.
Retention and your choices
We retain account information while needed to provide the service and meet security or legal obligations. In Your data, you can download an export, deactivate your profile or request deletion. Deletion has a 30-day grace period shown in the account flow. Approved catalogue contributions may remain with your name removed. Backups and records needed for security, legal compliance or resolving disputes may be retained for longer.
You can edit your profile and library, manage notification preferences, change visibility and revoke share links. Depending on the law that applies, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to or obtain a copy of your information, withdraw consent, or complain to your local data protection authority. Contact us to exercise those rights; we may need to verify your identity.
Security and policy changes
We use access controls, authentication and abuse protections to safeguard information. No online service can guarantee complete security. Keep your credentials private and tell us about suspected unauthorised access.
We will update the effective date when this policy changes and give notice of material changes through the service where appropriate.
Perfumer pages
What we publish about perfumers
A perfumer's page lists fragrances credited to them by the house, on the packaging, in the trade press or in the perfumer's own portfolio. We count only fragrances we've reviewed. Facts such as nationality, birth year, employer, education and awards come from Wikidata (CC0) and are checked by a person before they appear. Where we show a photo, we show where it came from and who took it.
Your choices
You can ask us to correct a credit or a fact, remove a photo, or hide a perfumer profile. Use the form at Report a problem. A person reads every request. We handle photo, privacy and profile-removal requests within 72 hours and other corrections within 14 days. If you are the perfumer, you can also claim your profile from its page.
What we keep when you write to us
Your message, the email address you give us so we can reply, and a one-way fingerprint used only to stop abuse of the form. We do not publish requests.
